New Day Center, UMOM UMOM

SPG is excited to continue our involvement in philanthropic activities!

Our members have voted to support UMOM New Day Center (www.umom.org), the largest family homeless shelter in Arizona, as our main philanthropy recipient.  The non-denominational New Day Center helps families (a lot of which are headed by single moms) break the cycle of homelessness by providing both emergency shelter and long-term transitional programs.

- More than 350 men, women, and children live at the New Day Center and over two-thirds of those are children.

-New Day Center takes care of food, clothes, childcare, and housing so that families can focus on getting their lives back together.

SPG supports the New Day Center through monthly drives (see details of previous & upcoming events below), as well as on-campus volunteering and special needs purchases (funded by our annual SPG Market Day fundraising event).

In the 2007-2008 school year, we had drives to collect canned food, halloween candy, ladies' hygiene items, infant and toddler necessities, maternity clothes, and construction paper and finger paints.

SPG Drives 2008-2009:

October: Halloween treats

November: Children's underwear (size 5 and under)

December: Women’s hygiene items (such as lotion, shampoo, conditioner, body wash, body scrub etc.)

January: Coloring books, board games, card games for children

February: Gently used baby clothing (all sizes)

March: Receiving blankets and infant socks

April: Full or twin size sheets (gently used is fine)
